This week, as you’ll already know, DI Samantha Nixon is leaving Sun Hill station to take up a post with the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre.
CEOP is the national police agency that was set up to tackle the sexual abuse of children, dedicated to identifying paedophiles who operate on the internet, through covert policing.
Episodes televised last year titled ‘Closing the Net’ were about this very type of policing. Jim Gamble who is the CEO of this elite unit, along with his colleagues helped The Bill develop the story, Closing the Net. With CEOP’s input, The Bill were able to jointly develop a traumatic fictitious story steeped in realism and dramatised by our production.
It was this story that won this year’s BAFTA for Best Drama by The Bill. We took along the coveted award, shown here with Jim Gamble, to CEOP to say thank you for all the support.
If online grooming and internet paedophilia is a worry to you, more information and help is available from www.ceop.police.uk
